About Velocity Insurance

What is Velocity Insurance?

Velocity Insurance is an independent, Alberta-based commercial insurance brokerage led by founder Mandy Stierman. We place business coverage, from property and liability to builder's risk and commercial auto, with Canada's leading insurers, giving Alberta businesses one experienced broker, clear advice, and personal service from the first quote through to a claim.

About Velocity

Where is Velocity Insurance located?

Velocity Insurance is based in Edmonton, Alberta, at 348 - 10654 82 Ave NW, and serves businesses across the province. The brokerage operates primarily remotely with in-person meetings by appointment, so you get the same responsive service whether you are in Edmonton, Calgary, or rural Alberta.

Is Velocity Insurance a broker or an insurance company?

Velocity is an independent insurance broker, not an insurer. We do not sell one company's products. Instead, we shop your risk across multiple Canadian carriers like Peace Hills, Forward, and Markel to find the coverage and price that fit your business, then advocate for you at renewal and at claim time.

Our insurance partners

Does Velocity do personal lines insurance?

No. Velocity is commercial-only by design, so we do not write personal lines such as home, personal auto, tenant, or life insurance. That focus keeps our expertise sharp for businesses. If you need personal coverage, we are glad to refer you to trusted personal-lines brokers in our network who hold the same standard of care.

What does it cost to use an insurance broker?

Using a broker like Velocity typically costs you nothing extra. Brokers are paid a commission by the insurer that is already built into the premium you would pay anyway. You get expert advice, access to multiple markets, and an advocate at claim time at no added cost over buying direct.

Who is the founder of Velocity Insurance?

Mandy Stierman is the founder of Velocity Insurance, a licensed Alberta insurance broker who built the brokerage around independence, technology, and genuine client relationships. She leads a boutique practice where clients work directly with an experienced broker rather than a rotating call centre.

What types of insurance does Velocity offer?

Velocity specializes in commercial insurance for Alberta businesses: commercial property, general liability, builder's risk (course-of-construction), contractors' equipment, commercial auto and fleet, cyber, directors & officers, business interruption, equipment breakdown, and crime. If your business faces a risk, we can usually place coverage for it.

Is business insurance mandatory in Alberta?

Two coverages are legally required in Alberta: commercial auto insurance if your business operates vehicles, and WCB coverage if you have employees. General liability and most other business insurance are not required by law, but landlords, lenders, and clients routinely require proof of it before you can sign a lease or a contract.

How much does commercial insurance cost in Alberta?

There is no flat rate. Premiums depend on your industry, revenue, property values, claims history, and the coverages you need. A small contractor's policy looks very different from a manufacturer's. The most accurate answer is a quote: tell us about your business and your broker prices it, usually within one business day.

Do I need business insurance as a sole proprietor or small business?

In most cases, yes. Even a one-person business can face a liability claim, a property loss, or a contract that requires proof of coverage. Many Alberta clients and landlords will not sign without a certificate of insurance. A short conversation with a broker tells you what you actually need.
